Job Title: Yearling Prep Internship

Location: Lexington, and Georgetown, Kentucky

Company Overview: Diamond Creek Farm is an elite breeding farm with operations in Kentucky and Pennsylvania. We focus on influential bloodlines and producing only quality horses for the sale ring and the racetrack. True to our vision, Diamond Creek Farm has firmly established itself by producing champions and standing high-caliber, sought -after stallions.

Job Summary: Join Diamond Creek Farm as a Yearling Prep Intern for an immersive educational experience working 40-hour weeks, 5 days on-farm, preparing yearlings for the sale ring. You’ll gain hands-on experience in key aspects of yearling preparation, including grooming, training, conformation evaluation, sale readiness, and pedigree knowledge. This internship is designed to provide practical skills alongside weekly educational workshops, covering all aspects of the industry, for a comprehensive understanding.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Training and handling
  • Adjusting nutritional and exercise programs
  • Grooming
  • Feeding and turning out
  • Evaluating yearling conformation and performance
  • Participating in weekly supplemental educational workshops
  • Networking with industry professionals, including farm staff, farriers, veterinarians, trainers, and bloodstock agents.

Areas of Focus:

  • Preparing yearlings for sale
  • Understanding and evaluating condition and conformation of yearlings
  • Learning sale tactics and auction preparation
  • Expanding knowledge in other aspects of the industry such as foaling, breeding, stallion management, collecting, processing, racing, and first aid.

Qualifications:

  • Skills: Strong work ethic and willingness to learn
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to carry out farm duties
  • Experience: At least one year of animal care or horse experience preferred but not required.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • $400.00 weekly stipend
  • Free shared housing and utilities provided
  • Potential for a full-time role upon completion
