Join the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County’s Roads Crew as a Facilities Maintenance Worker, and help care for the roads, trails, and infrastructure that support over 26,000 acres of protected land.

Work with a supportive team where every day you assist with a wide range of maintenance tasks, including painting, carpentry, masonry, minor plumbing, electrical repairs, and more, ensuring that preserves and facilities remain beautiful and accessible to the public.

What You’ll Do

Maintain, repair, and paint buildings, signs, gates, and park amenities.

Assist tradespeople with carpentry, masonry, plumbing, HVAC, electrical, and excavation projects.

Perform preventative maintenance and inspections of facilities and assets.

Load/unload materials, set up worksites, and maintain shop organization.

Remove snow and ice from preserve facilities during winter operations.

Conduct safe transportation of equipment and materials to job sites.

Provide guidance to crew members when needed and work independently on assignments.

What You’ll Need

  • 18 years or older at the time of hire.

2 years of field experience in general construction trades as a laborer or as a maintenance worker; or equivalent combination of related training and experience.

Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain a Class C license and OSHA 10 certification within 6 months.

Ability to pass respirator, confined space, and other applicable safety training.

  • Knowledge of methods, practices, processes, and materials used in facilities management and maintenance activities.

Solid knowledge of tools, equipment, and materials used in building maintenance and repair.

  • Understanding of occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions, and the capability to report hazards.

Ability to follow safety procedures and maintain a safe work environment.

  • Skills in performing manual labor related to maintenance and trade activities.

Strong teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills.

  • An understanding and use of personal protection equipment.

Schedule, Pay & Benefits

Monday-Friday, 6:30 AM – 2:30 PM.

  • Starting Pay: $26.53 – $28.31/hour.

Infrequent overtime opportunities during winter snow/ice operations or emergency call-outs.

Work Setting

Based out of the District’s Facilities Maintenance office in West Chicago, IL.

Field-based work across various forest preserve sites throughout DuPage County.
