About the Role:
This remote internship provides a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in peer recovery coaching within a mental healthcare organization. You will work alongside mental health professionals, learning and applying essential skills in the field. We will assist with any necessary paperwork for students to receive internship hours. Our goal is to equip you with practical experience and a deep understanding of the role.
Requirements:
- Must reside in the United States and have reliable internet access.
- Proficiency in Dari, Pashto, and English is required.
Position Details:
- Fully remote position.
- Part-time to full-time, ranging from 15 to 25 hours per week.
- Potential for full-time opportunities in the future.
- Pay: $18.00 – $22.00 per hour.
Responsibilities of the Peer Recovery Coach:
- Provide support specifically to recent immigrants from Afghanistan, helping them navigate the challenges of resettlement.
- Conduct individual or group peer coaching sessions remotely with clients via virtual platforms.
- Assist clients in accessing vital resources, including food, clothing, and housing.
- Guide clients with employment readiness, including job search assistance and skill development.
- Teach and support clients in areas such as English language skills or Citizenship exam preparation.
- Support clients with recovery planning, relapse prevention, and education/employment opportunities.
- Exhibit empathy and a nonjudgmental approach to empower clients in discovering their own solutions.
- Share personal lived experiences in a way that inspires and supports others.
Principal Duties and Personal Attributes as a Client Recruiter:
- Build connections with social and medical organizations to support client needs.
- Exhibit strong communication, empathy, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrate exceptional organizational skills.
- Have a deep understanding of the peer support community.
- Be a motivated individual passionate about driving positive change.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required; enrollment in a relevant University program is preferred.
- Ability to work effectively with a diverse group of individuals.
- Experience working with or alongside peer support networks.
- Peer Coaching certification (e.g., CCAR) is preferred.
